I have misquoted saying that If a lady refuses to give up on the property, she is usually forced to marry the Quran
KARACHI: Apropos a news story published in your paper and website on December 12, I would like to clarify the story in question, titled “Anti-women Practices Act: Three Years on, Women’s Rights Remain Limited to Paper” associates remarks to me which were either never made. For instance, the reporter quotes me as saying, “‘If a lady refuses to give up on the property, she is usually tortured and forced to marry the Quran,’ she said.”
Going by the facts of what was narrated by me, this quote is inappropriate. What was said instead was that women included in the study that had been married to the Holy Quran, were forced to remain unmarried in order to deprive them of their share in inheritance.
Besides this, I have also been quoted to have said, “The police officials of Hyderabad did not even know they have a Darul Sehat in their city ...”, while it was actually Darl-ul-Aman which was mentioned.
