Third World War

Letter December 14, 2014
What happened in Afghanistan during the course of the last 35 years was the Third World War with an interval

ISLAMABAD: What happened in Afghanistan during the course of the last 35 years was the Third World War with an interval. Coincidentally, it is ending in 2014 while the First World War began in 1914. The severest impact of this war was on Pakistan due to geopolitical factors and an increase in the usage of the term Af-Pak is recognition of this fact.

It is now imperative that Pakistan and Afghanistan formulate a unified strategy for recovering from the effects of this terrible war. In view of this, peace and prosperity in these countries is in the vital national interest of their neighbours: Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, China, India, as well as the US. These nine countries cover almost half the population of the world.
