Quality control for medicines

Letter December 11, 2014
There are many pharmaceutical companies which unfortunately, do not give due importance to quality control

KARACHI: Through your newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the authorities concerned towards the problem of flawed and inadequate quality control with regard to medicines. There is pressing need for honest checks and balances in the pharmaceutical industry. Medicines are supposed to provide cure to the sick but they can also result in deaths if due care is not taken during the manufacturing stage.

There are many pharmaceutical companies in the country, which unfortunately, do not give due importance to quality control. Medicines often arrive in the market without being tested transparently. The pharmaceutical industry seems to be only concerned about the sales of its products and seems to be giving little thought to the fact that it is responsible for the health of a large number of people. Both the health authorities and the industry itself do not seem to take notice of such activities. This state of affairs needs to be rectified.
