Reduced petroleum prices

Letter December 01, 2014
The federal and provincial governments must take strict action to bring prices of essential items down

KARACHI: Prices of petroleum products have once again been reduced and have now come to the level they were at in 2008. However, I am unable to find any consequent price reduction in items of daily use. Eggs per dozen still cost between Rs110-Rs120, while chicken is still being sold at Rs160 a kilogramme. Prices of vegetables and fruits have also not come down (but are always raised when petrol prices are increased).

The important question is: who is responsible for this regulation? Why aren’t the prices going down? The federal and provincial governments must take strict action to bring prices of essential items down. This also shows that the government has failed in controlling prices and has no plan or set-up for forcing manufacturers and market traders to give relief to consumers on account of a drop in transportation costs.
