Appeasing the clerics

Letter November 22, 2010
Public and legal discourse is dictated by the clerics and as a result religious minorities continue to suffer.

WATERLOO, NY, US: Aasia Bibi may face death for alleged blasphemy. Leaving aside her assertion that she never did such a thing, the fact is that her plight is sadly not an aberration. In Pakistan, public and legal discourse is dictated by the clerics and as a result its religious minorities continue to suffer. Persecuting Christians and Ahmadis — two of the most progressive and educated communities — in order to appease the clerics is a most tragic course of action. Such appeasement must end.
