KARACHI: With reference to Nasim Zehra’s piece “Time to repeal the blasphemy law” (November 17), may I say that such laws have created a culture of intolerance, which goes far beyond just its effects on the mistreatment of minorities.
In fact, this culture of intolerance in the name of religion happens against non-practising Muslims as well. Many people who are not particularly observant or religious are harassed and discriminated against by those who think that they are everyone’s moral guardians. These people claim that what they do and how they do things is the only correct way and those who don’t follow them are as bad as non-Muslims.
