Eid and happiness

Letter November 20, 2010
We have limited sensibilities and we rarely think objectively.

QUEENS, NY, US: Your editorial of November 17 “Eid and happiness” was an accurate depiction of our psyche. We have limited sensibilities and we rarely think objectively. Publications like yours along with some of the TV channels are bringing a much-needed paradigm shift, albeit slowly. However, they are helping people get the grasp of hardcore realities of economics.

What is perplexing is that many people vehemently oppose taxation (and this is natural and understandable), but on the other hand, they have no qualms paying a bribe to a corrupt official to get their work done.

A government is a partnership of people and their elected officials. Somehow both are not making sincere efforts to solidify this relationship. Yes, Eid is an occasion to bring the joy from within and spread it all around.
