KARACHI: Kudos to Maryam Nawaz for resigning from her post of chairperson of the Prime Minister’s Youth Loan Scheme. Those who believe in merit and transparency should welcome this move, which Ms Nawaz must have done to deflect criticism against her father and his government. There is no denying the fact that by any standard, her appointment came under the definition of nepotism and should have not been made in the first place.
Politics is not the same as business, and running the country is not the same as running one’s own business. That is precisely why when such appointments are made, they should be done on merit alone and should have nothing to do with the family connections of individuals.
