Austerity measures

Letter November 08, 2014
Govt should use taxpayers’ money wisely and honestly to enact laws and policies that further the greater public good

ISLAMABAD: Austerity measures are required to be taken by the government as was pledged in the ruling party’s election campaign. The government should use taxpayers’ money wisely and honestly to enact laws and policies that further the greater public good. Moreover, being the true representatives of the public, it is expected that lawmakers do away with unnecessary security measures and extravagant pomp and show, and make themselves accessible to their voters.

It is good to note that the prime minister has recently restricted federal and provincial ministers from making unnecessary trips overseas. Besides, they have been directed to stay in their offices and to focus on the performance of their ministries.
