Can Pakistan protect its citizens against Ebola?

Letter November 07, 2014
I would suggest that any person who has history of coming into contact with a suspected patient, must be quarantined

ISLAMABAD: I appreciate the article “Can Pakistan protect its citizens against Ebola?” by Naeem Sadiq (November 7) very much. As there is a contingent of the Pakistan Army serving in Liberia, I have asked the ex-deputy surgeon general of the Pakistan Army if proper preventive measures are being taken to prevent the Ebola infection.

While appreciating the steps pointed out by Mr Sadiq, I would suggest that any person who has a history of coming into contact with even a suspected patient, no matter how trivial that contact might be, must be quarantined and not sent home from the airports. An infected person does not show any symptoms till a few days after. The quarantine period is 21 days and all such persons should be in the isolation wards for that period of time.
