Nation has paid very heavy price for sinister policy of interference in internal affairs of neighbouring countries
MELBOURNE: The Wagah blast claimed more than 60 innocent lives. It is indeed a tragedy of great magnitude. Every human heart that has any humanity left in it, is in pain. The bombing is yet another manifestation of the phenomenon of deeply-rooted violent and intolerant interpretations of faith.
Pakistan, before the 1980s, had a belief in a moderate and inclusive interpretation of religion that made our society a balanced and tolerant one. The Afghan Jihad was never a religious engagement; it was purely an American operation that targeted Russians and Pakistan played a stooge of the US here. The corrupt leadership in Pakistan’s security apparatus traded Pakistan’s national interest for petty personal interests. The state is apparently fighting with these extremist elements now and it seems that there is some realisation within the establishment that these cut-throats must be exterminated. Widespread sectarianism is another by-product of the same mindset. The nation has paid a very heavy price for this sinister policy of interference in the internal affairs of neighbouring countries.
