Justice for Tahir Malik’s family

Letter October 12, 2014
When Gilani instructed his armed goons to make sure no car came near his, he assumed responsibility for what followed

KARACHI: A Pakistani prime minister was hanged for allegedly being responsible for someone’s murder, as he was convicted of having ordered the man’s murder. The legal precedent is established. When Abdul Qadir Gilani rashly took his armed goons on to a public road and instructed them to make sure no car came near his, he assumed responsibility for what followed. All of us find it irritating to have a VIP’s motorcade escort insist on having priority to pass on public roads. We ignore this wrong act as being not worthy of further action. Tahir Malik was a young man and reacted by refusing to yield his right to use a public road without deferring to another citizen. He was shot dead for this.

Who will provide justice to Tahir Malik’s family?

Imran Sheikh
