Zardari’s trip to China

Letter November 15, 2010
Pakistan is important to China so long as it is able to keep America bogged down in Afghanistan.

NEW DELHI: This is with reference to Sirajuddin Aziz’s article “President Zardari’s trip to China” (November 13). Pakistan is important to China so long as it is able to keep America bogged down in Afghanistan, sapping the US of its competitive edge. For that very reason, China’s engagement with Pakistan is mostly military-strategic. Even in the face of the recent flood, Chinese aid came to no more than $16.5 million compared to India, which gave $25 million.
