Can we see an appropriate shake-up in police so that the department is purged of all the black sheep involved in this?
KARACHI: The first week of October saw at least 20 deaths in Hyderabad due to people drinking toxic liquor. In response, the Sindh government stripped its minister for excise and taxation of his portfolio since his ministry is responsible for regulating liquor shops in the province. Now the question is that was this enough, and the answer — because of what happened in Karachi during the Eid holidays — was no.
Clearly, all this could not have happened without the connivance of the police since, and it is in fact an open secret that they take protection money from all kinds of people that provide illegal goods and services to the general public. Can we see an appropriate shake-up in the police so that the department is purged of all the black sheep involved in this?
