A change, maybe?

Letter October 03, 2014
Changes we see include rising prices, disturbed education system, an uncertain future for the country

KARACHI: A change is what everyone is looking for these days. A change in thoughts, vision and prevailing conditions seems to be the agenda of the sit-ins being staged across the country. All the sit-ins and processions going on, especially in the capital, are surely bringing about a change, but sadly, a devastating one for our country’s economy, and questioning our ideology and ethics in the international setting. As a consequence of this chaotic situation, prices of all necessities of daily life have increased, by a terribly huge margin, making it very difficult for the common people to make ends meet.

A change might have come, but certainly not one that is entirely welcome. To fathom the actual meaning of revolution, we need to realise that a revolution demands not only a huge number of people, but also a utilitarian attitude and hard work. A change cannot be brought overnight. As a matter of fact, changes that we see include rising prices, a disturbed education system, particularly in the capital, and an uncertain future of the country.
