LAHORE: This is with reference to Rafay Mahmood’s article titled “Dukhtar — the highway to hollowness” (September 20).
The harsh review indicates the hollowness of people who claim to work for your newspaper as film reviewers. Looking through the narrow scope of Pakistani eyes we demand so much from our film industry when it is in the early stage of its revival. Our expectations are high because we forget that our film-makers are working against all odds in a challenging environment with no structural or financial assistance.
What is even more interesting is that the film has got decent reviews by publications abroad, which only reinforces my point that as Pakistanis we tend to have unrealistically high expectations of our film-makers.
