Party heads should not be granting tickets to candidates, instead should hold a primary election, like in America.
ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to Ikram Sehgal’s article titled “Political parties and anarchy” (September 4).
The problem is that most of Pakistan’s political parties are dynastic and make laws when they are in power to perpetuate their own dominance. I would call for curtailing the tenure of the Senate, the National Assembly and provincial assemblies to four, three and two years, respectively. This will change the traditional master-servant relationship because the elected representatives will become more responsive to the needs and aspirations of the electorate.
Furthermore, party heads should not be granting tickets to candidates but instead the parties should hold a primary election, like in America.
