Does ‘constitutionally electing’ gives one the impunity against all the evil doings?
JHANG: The current political turmoil has clearly drawn a line between the people who believe in real democracy and those who are content with the lineage of the Sharifs and Bhuttos. In the prevailing brand of democracy — the one dependent on lineages — is found only in the Third World. There is no possibility of any deserving person coming to the power echelons meritoriously if he/she does not belong directly or indirectly to the ruling families.
So what is more surprising is not that most of the parliamentary parties have shown their overt support for the status quo, as they had to because their interests are associated with the system, but the people, still supporting the government after knowing about its corruption, plundering , tax defaulting and killings etc. These people are the perfect examples of those who have been mentally enslaved.
After the Model Town and Red Zone incidents what, now, is the difference between the Zionists inflicting brutality on Gaza and the Pakistani government wreaking havoc on the innocent peaceful protesters who are demonstrating in favour of legitimate demands? The only difference between the two is that former is doing it against its enemies while the latter, on its own compatriots. Does ‘constitutionally electing’ gives one the impunity against all the evil doings?
