Treatment of marchers

Letter August 24, 2014
Government should not torture its citizens as is being done in some cases when supply of water and food were denied.

ISLAMABAD: It is observed that the marchers, both men and women, are by and large lovers of peace. They cooperate with law-enforcers and are there mainly to listen to the speeches of their leaders.

However, morality and decency demands that the government should not torture its citizens as is being done in some cases when supply of water and food were denied to those inside the Red Zone.

Against this backdrop, our rulers must keep these noble words of Immanuel Kant in their mind who said “Treat others as ends in themselves”. Our rulers must not only avoid using them as mere means but also treat them as rational and autonomous beings.
