The federal and provincial governments need to implement all laws that seek to promote breastfeeding.
ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to your excellent editorial of August 12 titled “Benefits of breastfeeding”.
While I realise that some parents will make the choice to feed formula milk to their infants, it is important that breastfeeding be made the norm for newborns and infants. Legislation already exists in Pakistan on this issue — both at the provincial as well as federal levels — but the problem is of its implementation.
The federal and provincial governments need to implement all laws that seek to promote breastfeeding. The federal government had notified the Infant Feeding Board in October of last year but it has yet to hold even its first meeting.
