One should welcome American airstrikes against the ISIS in a bid to stop their advances
JUBAIL, SAUDI ARABIA: Regardless of the fact that it was the US which opened a Pandora’s box resulting in today’s chaos in Iraq, one should welcome American airstrikes against the ISIS in a bid to stop their advances. Thousands of people from Iraq’s ancient Christian and Yazidi communities are fleeing their towns and villages for fear of their lives.
These religious and ethnic minorities are vulnerable to the brutalities of the ISIS as the government in Baghdad is in tatters and has been unable to check the advances of the jihadists.
If Americans were so worried about minorities in Iraq, where were they when Israel was bombing Gaza? Hundreds of civilians, including children, were killed in cold blood, thousands injured and made homeless, thousands of homes destroyed, schools, hospitals, clinics and mosques all razed to the ground.
