Madness without a method

Letter August 08, 2014
It seems as if the nation has been unable to decide whether it prefers democracy or dictatorship.

ISLAMABAD: After 67 years of independence, a chaos-like situation is prevailing in the capital. On the one hand, there are celebrations of independence and, on the other, preparations are being made to tackle the upcoming Long March. It seems as if the nation has been unable to decide whether it prefers democracy or dictatorship.

Under dictatorship, cruelties and brutalities are the norm. Under democratic governments, there are voices coming against the political system because it includes corruption and other problems. There is regional divide and other national issues come out.

We are confused about nation-building. There is a lack of decision-making plus we are confused about what system works in our benefit. Despite the many decades that have passed since Pakistan’s creation, waywardness is the only order. Our political landscape is defined by a madness that has no method.

A change in the system can only be brought about if there is a change in the thinking of the people. Merely changing the faces of our prime ministers and presidents will not help bring about any kind of change.

But how can there be a change in the thinking of the people if they don’t read and remain ignorant? There won’t be any kind of change unless people start to think differently after educating themselves.
