Stop the Wagah flag ceremony

Letter November 08, 2010
Hawks in India and Pakistan have outlived their utility after wreaking havoc on their respective nations.

ISLAMABAD: A few days ago it had been reported that Pakistani and Indian commanders of their respective paramilitary border security forces had agreed to tone done the aggressive flag-lowering ceremony at the Wagah border crossing. But now it seems that the Pakistani side has not agreed to this suggestion.

Soldiers on both sides of the divide must realise that anything which promotes peace is also a matter of honour and pride for them as well as their respective countries. Any nation that lags behind in the race for peace and economic progress has no future. Both India and Pakistan need to compete in the race for peace rather than involve themselves in such militant and aggressive ceremonies. India is trying to integrate itself with the world’s economic system and Pakistan cannot afford to be left behind.

Hawks in India and Pakistan have outlived their utility after wreaking havoc on their respective nations and peaceful people of both nations need to make their voices heard loud and clear.
