LAHORE: In these pages, letter writer Hashim Abro has rightly lamented the general plight of the poor women who have always been neglected by various governments. He says that in many places of the country, including in Thar, Cholistan and Kuchhu, women have to walk several miles to fetch drinking water.
The problem, however, cannot be resolved by providing Thar with a canal. The problem instead is providing water to the canal. The water we have is not sufficient even for our existing needs. The simple fact is that we are fast running out of water: the supply side is static and the demand side is increasing with every new mouth to feed.
