It must be understood that the army chief alone does not make all the decisions.
ISLAMABAD: I would like to comment on the recent article written by Mr Saroop Ijaz. The writer needs to realise that the soldiers are commanded by these‘generals’ and ‘officers’, no army can function without the leadership of a good general. Plus the army has an extremely strict control system; a soldier wouldn’t even dare to breathe without the permission of his supervisor. Our officers, of all the ranks, including the generals, are always leading from the front and suffer from casualties numerous times. A recent example is the death of General Sanaullah Khan on the battlefield.
The problem with the people of this country is that, no matter what crisis hits them, they expect the army to come to their rescue and save them and then later, they abuse the same institution which aided them. These so-called ‘intellectuals’ and ‘writers’ have it easy, sitting in their comfortable homes and enjoying the safety provided by the army.
It must be understood that the army chief alone does not make all the decisions. In the army, decisions are made in a more democratic manner by mutual consultations. Therefore, people should refrain from giving statements which would trouble not only the public but also the stable functioning of the army.
