Reviving the Karachi Circular Railway

Letter June 26, 2014
All delays should be done away with as this project is very crucial for resolving Karachi’s many transport problems.

KARACHI: The Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project’s major problem is encroachment on the land commissioned for the tracks. The newly-elected MNAs and MPAs must play their role and encourage people to move to the land which is reserved for affected people.

The Sindh government removed encroachments for the Lyari Expressway project so that it could be completed.

Therefore, once again, political parties must play their role in removing encroachments from the railway land so that the KCR project can materialise.

Moreover, the government should sign an agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) or some other foreign firms for providing a soft loan for laying new tracks and new engines.

The KCR project is quite feasible. All delays should be done away with as this project is very crucial for resolving Karachi’s many transport problems.
