Drought in Sindh

Letter June 26, 2014
Owing to the provincial government’s mismanagement, a lot of lives were lost in the province.

KARACHI: The meteorological department has warned of extreme drought conditions in the south, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan, adding that the country as a whole will face 30 to 60 per cent less monsoon rains this year.

Sindh is suffering from the worst type of governance in its history — and so, the people of Sindh are obviously worried about such warnings by the meteorological department because they feel that the necessary preventive steps might not be taken by the administration. The recent example of the Thar tragedy in Sindh is before us. Owing to the provincial government’s mismanagement, a lot of lives were lost in the province.

On behalf of the people of Sindh, I appeal to former president Asif Zardari and PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to understand the concerns of Sindhis, combat the impending drought and ensure overall good governance in the province.
