We throw away 75 per cent of our water into the Arabian Sea and complain to the World Bank about India stealing water.
RESTON, VIRGINIA, US: Marvi Memon’s article “Water theft” (November 3) raises some valid points; however, I would like to point out some others. We throw away 75 per cent of our water into the Arabian Sea and then complain to the World Bank about India stealing water upstream.
Why do we need to run to the UN, World Bank or the IMF for our problems with India which can be resolved through bilateral negotiations? Diplomacy is not just a weapon, it is the only way to resolve issues in today’s world.
Also, the recent flood has proved that we have more water than we need. Why doesn’t this article touch upon attacking corruption and tax evasion so we can build dams for irrigation and hydroelectric power generation? Finding ways to blame India to hide gross inefficiencies in our system will not help us.
