Lahore mayhem

Letter June 18, 2014
Pakistan is almost at the edge of civil war and unity is mandatory to save our state.

KARACHI: Politicians and political parties are two major components of our society. However, I feel that politicians of Pakistan are quite immature and will remain immature for the rest of their lives. They never try to understand what the time requires from them. They continue to play their game of dirty politics even in the wake of national tragedies.

They prefer to score points through verbal sparring instead of uniting under one single cause. I fear that in future, this bad situation will turn worse. The first thing that these immature politicians tend to do in the wake of any national challenge is pack up their bags and escape the country.

Who will help us in this situation? The clash we witnessed outside Tahirul Qadri’s house and PAT headquarters in Lahore on June 17 was an example of state terrorism and political immaturity. There was no point for this clash especially when state matters are already so sensitive these days. So many people lost their lives in that brutal and thoughtless incident — but it seems as if none of the politicians care as the lives of the common people are not worthy enough for them to be taken notice of.

At this point of time in the country, we need to stand behind our soldiers who have laid their lives for this state and are once again ready to do the same. Pakistan is almost at the edge of civil war and unity is mandatory to save our state. So many lives are already being lost in a completely different geographical location. We can’t have people dying in the cities as well!
