A backgrounder to the North Waziristan operation (II)

Letter June 18, 2014

WASHINGTON: I partially agree with Khalid Munir’s views which seem to be in line with what some sane elements think about Pakistani society. I am of the opinion that 95 per cent of our society comprises positive and forward-looking people but the social fabric has been hijacked by a small group of insane, intolerant and fickle-minded radicals who are brainwashed and follow whatever has been directed by their masterminds. The writer seems to represent the silent innocent majority whose voice seems to have been overpowered by extremist elements.

A serious issue for us today is the extremely compromised state of law enforcement and judicial bodies. Every innocent and law-abiding citizen is afraid of these rogue elements because they expect neither justice nor safety from them. Certainly the operation will render challenges for these rogue elements and the political leadership must support its armed forces with all its heart and mind. However, the real test of the government will be the post-operation rehabilitation process.
