The enigmatic Pakistan-US partnership

Letter June 04, 2014
Pakistan needs to ensure regional security after Nato withdrawal from Afghanistan, not only for US but also for itself

ISLAMABAD: This is apropos the article, “The enigmatic Pakistan-US partnership” by Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi (June 3). I would like to mention that it is not only the US that needs Pakistan to ensure regional security after the Nato withdrawal, but it is Pakistan itself that needs to address the issue more than any other country. There is no denying that the country has faced the toughest security situation in its history and is now going through a transition that can lead towards peace in the region. At the same time, one must realise that our internal security will ultimately be our responsibility — and that too, quite a ponderous responsibility, as the peace and prosperity of the entire region depends on how effectively Pakistan is able to combat terrorism in the confines of its own geography.
