It is time the countries of the subcontinent did serious introspection if we hope to rectify and curb these injustices
LAHORE: Crimes against women, justified on the basis of archaic feudal mindset, are not just confined to Pakistan. They exist in India on a far more extensive scale. Whether it was the gruesome and fateful gang rape of a medical student in New Delhi in 2012, the recent gang rape of two Dalit sisters in an Uttar Pradesh village or the brutal bludgeoning to death of Farzana in Lahore, we must remember that these heinous crimes have nothing to do with religion but occur due to the sick mindset of those at the helm of affairs in both countries.
It is unfortunate that misogynistic men justify rape, killing of untouchable females in India, as their counterparts justify similar brutalities in Pakistan on the basis of customs. It is time the countries of the subcontinent did serious introspection if we hope to rectify and curb these injustices.
