Obama’s step up for India (II)

Letter November 02, 2010
These rising economies provide an opportunity for countries like Pakistan.

LAHORE: India, China, Russia and Brazil are the rising economies of the world and the world community is trying to help and encourage them to become an engine of growth for the betterment of mankind. There will always remain some friction and conflict of interest between existing super economies, such as the US, and these rising economies. But these countries have mature leaders who will be able to reconcile their differences.

These rising economies provide an opportunity for countries like Pakistan. They should be looked at as emerging markets which we must capture. The only problem is that in order to do this we need to have a stable government and good law and order.

Pakistan needs to recognise this opportunity and reorient its outlook from a military-oriented one to an economy-oriented one. Pakistan cannot allow Kashmir to become a barrier in its progress. We need good relations with India. Let us forget the Kashmir for now, let it be solved by future generations who will be much more educated and mature than current generations. Right now, neither Pakistan nor India has the mandate to negotiate or change the status of Kashmir.
