RAWALPINDI: During his brief visit to New Delhi, Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif played his cards extremely well. In response to PM Modi’s accusations of bombs and infiltrations in India by certain non-state actors, PM Sharif’s response was brisk, to the point and seemed to say a lot in just a few words.
Nawaz clearly implied that accusations (by you) and counter-accusations (by me) would be counterproductive. By implication, this was a reminder to PM Modi that if you accuse us of things going awry in Kashmir, we can accuse you of your massive involvement in Balochistan. One also wonders about the scale and involvement of India in Afghanistan — why is it that India has established scores of consulates and that too, all along the Pakistan-Afghan border?
Unfortunately, our media couldn’t grasp the wisdom behind that one sentence of PM Sharif. What a pity! Let’s not lose sight of the fact that diplomacy is too serious a matter to be left to media.
