The government should increase pensions so that pensioners can fulfil their basic necessities.
ISLAMABAD: I would like to draw the attention of the relevant authorities to the miseries of those government employees who started drawing pensions in or before 1969, when their monthly salaries were paltry and the pension ran into three digits.
The pension of such retired employees is now less than the minimum wage fixed by the government. It is hard for them to buy costly medicines. The government should increase pensions so that pensioners can fulfil their basic necessities. Therefore, the finance minister and the prime minister need to pay serious attention to this segment of society and make substantial increases in their pension, keeping their needs in view.
