MPA’s misbehaviour

Letter May 27, 2014
It was saddening to learn that the doctor’s prestige was trampled upon by a feudal lord drunk on his power.

HYDERABAD: It is quite commendable that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice on May 26 of the incident in which one of the MPAs of his party slapped a doctor at a hospital in Faisalabad. The reason for this crude behaviour is reported to be the fact that the doctor, because was occupied, could not give protocol to the lawmaker.

It was saddening to learn that the doctor’s prestige was trampled upon by a feudal lord drunk on his power. The powerful in this country, owing to their influence, are used to overwhelming others. One wonders how many such incidents of abuse of power occur on a daily basis and are secretly hushed up.

Moreover, this incident also signifies that our police force is more or less helpless. Why was no FIR lodged against this MPA? It seems that the police can enforce law only selectively; all their power and mandate gets fizzled out before influential people. Such police officials should be brought to book.
