PCB musical chairs

Letter May 19, 2014
As the patron of the board, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is requested to restore sanity in the PCB.

ISLAMABAD: This is apropos the story, “Islamabad High Court reinstates Zaka Ashraf as PCB Chairman” (May 17). My question is: since all appointments made by the government get challenged in the judiciary, is this reflective of the fact that the government lacks expert legal advisers?

Has Pakistani cricket not suffered enough on the international arena to be tossed into embarrassing disarray like this? Some of its players have been caught red-handed in irregularities, even when those from the high-profile management accompanied them. The shameful manner in which the Pakistani cricket team was outplayed in the T-20 World Cup should have called for drastic changes within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Its staff should have been replaced with individuals of impeccable integrity and credibility at helm.

Is there a dearth of educated cricketers with international credibility and administrative experience in the country who do not meet the expectations of these politically powerful PCB chairmen? As the patron of the board, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is requested to restore sanity in the PCB and take some time out, given his love for cricket, to pick from men such as Majid Khan, Saleem Altaf, Talat Ali Malik, Aleem Dar for the position of chairman of the PCB, or as members of board, selectors and managers etc.
