Electronic machines should be used for casting votes as used in India during the recent general elections.
LAHORE: The Pakistan government has formed a parliamentary committee to suggest reforms of the electoral process. The committee should keep the points mentioned below in view along with other suitable ones while finalising its recommendations.
Electronic machines should be used for casting votes as used in India during the recent general elections. Such machines are being used by many other countries. By doing so, the role of returning officers and the polling staff will be considerably reduced. As far as the empowerment and authority of the election commission is concerned, India’s example should be noted. After the announcement of a date for the general elections, the Indian government had to take prior permission from the election commission before the appointment of a new army chief. Such should be the authority of an independent and impartial election commission.
