Fighting thalassaemia

Letter May 11, 2014
Government must make a solemn pledge to deal with thalassaemia on a war footing as it requires costly treatment.

ISLAMABAD: Noxious diseases are innumerable and they take a heavy toll, particularly on the vulnerable segments of society. The saddest part of this unfortunate scenario is that not only Pakistan but almost all the underdeveloped and developing countries of the world are in a quandary as they do not have adequate resources to deal with such diseases effectively. Thalassaemia is one such disease.

The world observed ‘Thalassaemia Day’ in the first week of May. The government also observed this important day with a sense of responsibility and commitment. On this important occasion, it must make a solemn pledge to deal with this dangerous disease on a war footing as it requires costly treatment.
