Development hazards

Flyover construction on Malir Halt and Malir 15 roads have made them even more cumbersome for commuters

KARACHI: Roads of Malir Halt and Malir 15 are two of the busiest routes of Karachi and are always flooded with automobiles. But travelling on these roads has turned even more cumbersome since the construction of flyovers has started. Such building work is good effort but construction without planning and management makes it even more inconvenient and arduous for the common people. Waiting for hours in traffic has become a daily ordeal for passengers. A large part of the two roads is occupied by construction material and barriers due to which vehicles have to go through the service roads. The situation becomes worse when these service roads are wholly choked up by encroachments and squatters. There are shops, food shacks, mosques and petrol stations that have occupied most of the road area, which is illegal. Apart from that, we all witness poor management of traffic due to the absence of traffic police.

I want to draw the attention of the relevant district government bodies to this menace as the commuters have to suffer a lot, waiting for hours in the hot summer. Proper management and planning must be ensured before starting any such project. Contractors should hire skilled workers and experienced engineers that can come up with more convenient ideas for the people.
