Instead of questioning students, invigilators and teachers should be questioned.
ISLAMABAD: Cheating in Sindh is always at its peak during the examination season. Every year, a number of cases are reported from almost all districts of Sindh, but the authorities concerned and the minister of education do not take any notice at all. Neither do they take any measures to stop this. The purpose of education is completely altered when students only engage with books to secure a piece of paper called a degree. It is the biggest question mark on this system.
Why don’t teachers train their students on conducting themselves decorously in the examination hall? How can examiners allow their students to carry cell phones with them considering that the rules clearly state that ‘mobiles phones should not be used in the centre’? Why is cheating made so easy for dishonest students?
Instead of questioning students, invigilators and teachers should be questioned. What progress have teachers made if their students cannot even remember a single word that has been taught to them throughout the year?
It is high time that the authorities took action in this regard. We should start with making sure that students are sufficiently prepared so that they don’t feel the need to cheat in exams. Moreover, exams should be promptly cancelled whenever a question paper is leaked.
