Impact of strikes

Letter May 03, 2014
I request that the authorities take notice of the plight that the common man faces due to these strikes.

KARACHI: Through your newspaper, I would like to convey my qualms about the recent strike (on May 2) in Karachi. Firstly, it seems that the state is oblivious to the killing of innocent people by unknown criminals on a regular basis.

As a result of these killings, the city goes on strike, which means that offices, shops, schools, colleges and universities close down, which has an adverse impact on the economy and students’ studies. Many of the students are preparing for their exams and get disturbed since many of them are mentally prepared to take the exam on a certain day — on which a strike occurs.

Moreover, a common man who earns a living solely by selling vegetables or fruits on carts faces a big loss owing to the strike. Often, his family might be compelled to spend a whole day without eating a single meal.

I request that the authorities take notice of the plight that the common man faces due to these strikes.
