Visiting the US

Letter October 30, 2010
Has the writer ever looked at what happens at immigration control in Pakistan?

LAHORE: This is with reference to Javed Chaudhry’s article of October 28 titled “A humiliating experience” where he has written what happened to him when he arrived at Washington’s Dulles International Airport. Has the writer ever looked at what happens at immigration control in Pakistan? Has he seen what happens to poor Pakistani labourers as they return to their homeland from the Gulf? They are harassed by immigration staff and customs officials and have to pay bribes just to exit the arrivals lounge.

Perhaps the writer should also write about how the rich and the privileged easily walk past customs while poor labourers have their luggage checked inside out. It is easy to criticise the US for its immigration and customs protocols but what about our own airports? Why not write something on how these can be improved for the benefit of our passengers?
