Pakistani fishermen in Indian Jails

Letter April 11, 2014
Government of Pakistan, in coordination with government of Sindh, must take up the matter with the Indian government.

KARACHI: As per the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF), 125 Pakistani fishermen for the past 19 years and 275 fishermen for the last five years have been in Indian Jails. The PFF, in cooperation with the local fishermen, has launched month-long protest demonstrations in various cities of Sindh from April 10 to May 10, 2014. The first such demonstration was held on April 10 in Chuhar Jamali — a town situated in the Indus delta.

The government of Pakistan, in coordination with the government of Sindh, must take up the matter with the Indian government on a priority basis and must get the imprisoned fishermen released as soon as possible besides developing a sustainable mechanism to avoid such arrests in future.
