policemen deputed in Lyari know a lot about criminals, but prefer to remain confined within the walls of their thanas.
KARACHI: Your editorial titled ‘Lyari Killings’ (March 12) rightly depicts the plight of the sports-loving residents of Lyari. The PPP claims Lyari to be its stronghold but has practically done nothing to improve the law and order situation in the area, which has been getting worse by the day.
Out of the four police stations of Lyari, no police patrol is visible within the limits of three police stations namely Kalakot, Chakiwara and Baghdadi. The Rangers do carry out targeted operations but they avoid going after the criminals in narrow by-lanes. Besides, they lack proper intelligence. Conversely, the policemen deputed in Lyari know a lot about the criminals, but prefer to remain confined within the safety of the four walls of their thanas. Frankly, the policemen of Lyari personally know each and every criminal within the remit of their police stations but it seems that they are not willing to share this information with the Rangers.
It is time the Sindh government did something meaningful to relieve Lyari of this nagging nuisance.
