Bollywood: improvement required

Letter March 11, 2014
The quality of scripts in Bollywood has fallen a lot over the years. A lot of plagiarising is taking place.

KOLKATA: This is with reference to the interview that Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah gave to your newspaper on his visit to Pakistan recently, in which he has stated that Bollywood has not achieved anything to be proud of. I agree with Mr Shah’s contentions. The quality of scripts in Bollywood has fallen a lot over the years. A lot of plagiarising is taking place. Being an Indian, I know that Mr Shah is a patriotic Indian and we are proud of him. The art movies that he has performed in are enjoyed thoroughly. Even my seven-year-old son enjoys his movies more than the run-of-the-mill Dhoom series of movies. Hats off to the great maestro. There would be many Indians who may not be entirely pleased with Mr Shah’s statement, especially as he gave it in Pakistan, but my message to them is to please learn to appreciate constructive criticism. Bollywood has to improve or we may fall into the kind of precipice that the Pakistan movie industry fell into.
