Poison in our pipes

Letter March 07, 2014
How is it possible that after 64 years, Pakistan still cannot provide safe drinking water to its people?

AMANZIMTOTI, SOUTH AFRICA: This is with reference to Aima Khosa’s article “The poison in our pipes” (March 6). The writer’s article has reminded me of the saying, “Water, water everywhere, and not a drop to drink.”

Whenever I visit Pakistan, I invariably have stomach problems, despite being careful about what I drink. Sometimes I wonder, how is it possible that after 64 years, Pakistan still cannot provide safe drinking water to its people. The writer has hit the right notes and hopefully somebody up there will take notice. But those up there use bottled water and have no worries about the average guy living in the less affluent parts of Lahore.
