Hatred, as we Pakistanis have found out, leads to catastrophic consequences.
AMANZIMTOTI, SOUTH AFRICA: This is apropos Aakar Patel’s article titled “Beyond communal divides” (March 2). It is refreshing to hear a liberal voice discussing the divisions that exist in Indian politics, which is becoming increasingly anti-minorities. We know the reason for the popularity of the BJP is mainly because it is anti-Muslim. For that reason alone, I have sympathies with the Congress party, although it has been weak and ineffective in governing India in recent times.
One of the reasons why India has a good image abroad is because it is seen as a rainbow nation, much like South Africa. Breaking the rainbow ideology will not do any good to it in the long run. Hatred, as we Pakistanis have found out, leads to catastrophic consequences. That is not a path any well-wisher of India would want for that country.
