If we would have felt even a fraction of pain that IDPs go through, we would never even created such a situation.
PESHAWAR: This is with reference to the editorial “Preparing for IDPs” (March 2). To all of us, the term internally displaced persons (IDPs) means just that: people who are internally displaced. But we have never actually felt the pain these people go through, mentally and spiritually. If we would have felt even a fraction of the pain and gone through even an iota of the trouble that IDPs go through, we would never even have thought of creating a situation that would lead to the creation of more IDPs.
I have some questions for the government and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority. Do we just need meetings and planning for the arrangement of tents for the IDPs? What about the psychological disorders, the pain of leaving their homes and residing in tents with negligible facilities, the insecurity they will face, the feelings which they will not be able to describe? Why are we playing with our people and taking advantage of them? Why are we ignoring the social, mental and spiritual aspects of this situation?
