People of Pakistan voted for change in 2013 elections, but instead, we see is corruption being nurtured, protected.
SIALKOT: Corruption thrives in this country because it is beneficial to the powerful land mafia, boosts and protects the black economy, aids tax evasion and helps the powerful Pakistani elite to transfer their billions abroad without any check. Terrorism and lawlessness thrive in this country because of corruption and the fact that it involves billions in revenues generated through extortion, kidnappings for ransom, smuggling of weapons and targeted killings. As long as corruption remains rampant in law-enforcement agencies, customs, border security and intelligence agencies, the curse and greed for more will bring disaster for Pakistan.
A cursory look at the lifestyle of retired bureaucrats and members of the lower judiciary will reveal the quantum of corruption and the dividends reaped by this powerful nexus. The people of Pakistan voted for change in the 2013 elections, but instead, what we see is corruption being nurtured and protected and the plundering of state assets.
